I'll waste little time with an introduction here. It's pretty self-explanatory. I'll just go through the first round again tonight, but I will have a complete, two-round mock up before the draft Thursday. As usual, I'm just going with the current order. It's hard enough to project the actual picks, let alone try to project draft-day trades. Comments, questions, your own mocks are all welcome below. Enjoy.
1. Los Angeles Clippers - Blake Griffin, F, Oklahoma (Previous pick: same): Does anyone really have him slipping past here? That's what I thought.
2. Memphis Grizzlies - Hasheem Thabeet, C, UConn (Previous pick: same): This pick stays Thabeet for now. Yes I know he cancelled his visit, but I don't think that means much. Memphis, just like the rest of the country, has seen him play plenty at UConn.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder - Jordan Hill, PF, Arizona (Previous pick: Ricky Rubio, PG, Spain): Very tough call here. I have been reading that Rubio may fall. I haven't been reading much either way about Hill, which I'm taking as a good sign. He could be the pick.
4. Sacramento Kings - Ricky Rubio, PG, Spain (Previous pick: James Harden, SG, Arizona State): Sacramento will likely go for a guard here. I read that Tyreke Evans dominated a workout with the Timberwolves over the weekend. The workout featured most of the other top point guards in the draft, so his stock could be improving as well. For now, it's Rubio.
5. Washington Wizards - Stephen Curry, G, Davidson (Previous pick: Hill): Hard to predict where the Wizards will go if Hill is off the board. They could probably use an upgrade at point guard, so if they might grab Curry if they feel he can run the point.
6. Minnesota Timberwolves - Tyreke Evans, PG, Memphis (Previous pick: Curry): After reading about this workout, I think my T'wolves might have their eyes set on him. That would certainly make me a happy fan.
7. Golden State Warriors - Jonny Flynn, PG, Syracuse (Previous pick: Ty Lawson, PG, North Carolina): I wouldn't be surprised to see Lawson here (or any of the other top point guards, for that matter). The Warriors need a point guard so they can play Jamal Crawford off the ball.
8. New York Knicks - James Harden, SG, Arizona State (Previous pick: DeMar DeRozan, SF, USC): Harden could go as high as No.3, so this would be a bit of a fall for him. It would be difficult for the Knicks to pass on him though. He would definitely upgrade an iffy backcourt.
9. Toronto Raptors - Gerald Henderson, SF, Duke (Previous pick: same): I still love this pick. Henderson would be a great fit for the Raptors and would give them one of the taller lineups in the league.
10. Milwaukee Bucks - Ty Lawson, PG, North Carolina (Previous pick: Evans): I still think the Bucks will look for a point guard here. If Evans is off the board, flip a coin between Lawson, Jeff Teague and Brandon Jennings. For now, I'll go with Lawson.
11. New Jersey Nets - Earl Clark, F, Louisville (Previous pick: same): Like the Raptors pick, I just think this one makes too much sense. The addition of Clark makes the Nets a serious sleeper team next year, particularly in the weak Eastern Conference.
12. Charlotte Bobcats - Chase Budinger, F, Arizona (Previous pick: same): Again, until I feel otherwise, this pick makes too much sense not to happen. He fits a need and he seems like a Larry Brown-type player, so Budinger is the choice.
13. Indiana Pacers - DeMar DeRozan, SF, USC (Previous pick: Flynn): A point guard is very possible, but DeRozan offers a ton of potential. He is young and raw, but the Pacers could start him out off the bench.
14. Phoenix Suns - Patty Mills, PG, Saint Mary's (Previous pick: same): I don't see how the Suns pass up a point guard here. Whether it's Mills or not, that's up in the air.
15. Detroit Pistons - B.J. Mullens, C, Ohio State (Previous pick: Eric Maynor, PG, VCU): These Mullens-to-Detroit rumors seem to have some merit. And the Pistons certainly need the height, so I'll pencil it in.
16. Chicago Bulls - James Johnson, SF, Wake Forest (Previous pick: Wayne Ellington, SG, North Carolina): Tough pick here for the Bulls. A lot depends on Ben Gordon's situation, but overall they don't have any glaring weaknesses. Rather, they will probably opt for the best player available or trade the pick.
17. Philadelphia 76ers - Wayne Ellington, SG, North Carolina (Previous pick: Johnson): The 76ers could use an upgrade at the two-guard. Ellington would certainly offer that.
18. Minnesota Timberwolves - Terrence Williams, F, Louisville (Previous pick: same): If Minnesota goes for a guard with their first pick, which I suspect is likely, they should look for a versatile forward here.
19. Atlanta Hawks - Omri Casspi, SF, Israel (Previous pick: Mullens): The Hawks' only real weakness is at small forward, so they could gamble with the Israel product Casspi.
20. Utah Jazz - DeJuan Blair, PF, Pittsburgh (Previous pick: same): Blair just fits very well with the Jazz. He is a younger version of Carlos Boozer.
21. New Orleans Hornets - Tyler Hansbrough, PF, North Carolina (Previous pick: same): Like Blair, Hansbrough seems a perfect fit to me. The Hornets need a guy that will fight in the paint. The first thing Hansbrough does when he wakes up in the morning is elbow two guys in the paint and grab a rebound. Sounds like a natural fit.
22. Dallas Mavericks - Jeff Teague, PG, Wake Forest (Previous pick: Brandon Jennings, PG, Oak Hill Academy/Italy): Dallas would love to add some size here, but there is more talent available at guard. Jennings could still be the pick, but Teague is a little safer.
23. Sacramento Kings - Sam Young, SF, Pittsburgh (Previous pick: same): It's either Young or Derrick Brown. I'll give the nod to Young for now, but that could probably change.
24. Portland Trail Blazers - Boban Marjanovic, C, Serbia (Previous pick: Casspi): The first big shock of the night. Portland, a team with no weaknesses, can afford to take a flyer on the 7-foot-4-inch giant.
25. Oklahoma City Thunder - Eric Maynor, PG, VCU (Previous pick: Taj Gibson, PF, USC): After electing not to take Rubio at the top of the draft, the Thunder take a point guard here.
26. Chicago Bulls - Dionte Christmas, SG, Temple (Previous pick: Dante Cunningham, SF, Villanova): Cunningham is a favorite of mine, but so is Christmas. He would be a nice addition to an already deep bench.
27. Memphis Grizzlies - Jrue Holiday, PG, UCLA (Previous pick: Teague): The Grizzlies will likely grab a guard here if they take Thabeet at No. 2. If Holiday or Jennings are available, I'd bet on one of them to be the guy.
28. Minnesota Timberwolves - Taj Gibson, PF, USC (Previous pick: DaJuan Summers, SF, Georgetown): Very tough to slot the T'wolves here. They already grabbed a point guard and an athletic forward. A logical next choice would be to add more size. That never hurts.
29. Los Angeles Lakers - Darren Collison, PG, UCLA (Previous pick: same): The Lakers need to add point guard depth. I still contend that the local product is a good way to go.
30. Cleveland Cavaliers - Brandon Jennings, PG, Oak Hill Academy/Italy (Previous pick: Christmas): Could Jennings really fall this far? Well, in a word, yes. Cleveland could take a flyer on him though.
