You know what, normally I love new stadiums, but one really pisses me off. No not Yankee stadium, though I think they over spent building the thing. Citi-Field.  Why am I so annoyed? Citibank Field basically is promoting all over the park with Government money. Tax money that you and I have to pay. Now I am sure that this has been written about many times but I want to bring it up again, since the MLB season starts today. Citibank took TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Fund) money and they should not be allowed to be sponsors of MLB parks.  Citibank is clueless.

I have sat in front of my TV and watched Vikram Pandit get grilled in front of the senate banking committee and he came across as one of the most pompous assholes I have ever seen. While the other bank CEO's that took TARP money were repentant he was just up on his high horse interrupting everyone who tried to get a word in. Now this was two months ago mind you and since then millions of Americans have lost their jobs because of the banks and how they valued mortgages. If these banks had paid a little attention to the underwriting process of giving out mortgages to real estate developers and homeowners we would not be in this situation.

Now you can fault a million different people and reasons for this mess, from Bush, to the banks, to the bonds trader who started doing mortgage backed securities in the 80's, to the common American who should have realized that interest only loans lead to negative amortization and when the home value drops as it did, you are going to end up defaulting on your mortgage. Not rocket science people.

Let me bring this back off my rant on common sense to Citibank that in a move that annoys me to no end did not back out of it's deal to be the sponsor of the Met's new park.  Instead they went full steam a head. So they are now putting in my opinion money towards sponsorship that they should have put towards making sure their bank soluble. I hope I am not the only one in thinking that we have some true idiots running our banks here. Now I am not going to claim that I know the ins and outs of the banking industry, but I know enough when to call, "bullshit" on something such as paying 400 million for the naming rights to a field when people are living in their cars because of you.

Annoyed? Yes I am.

I feel your anger...Anger is a secondary emotion. It usually is rooted in some form of injustice or hurt and anger is the result. The two-headed monster of corporate greed and injustice has surface! You nailed it...

Except, they signed a contract to buy all those ads, and the stadium is relying on that revenue. You think Citibank should be relieved of their obligations because they got TARP funding?

Wasn't the whole point of TARP to ensure that banks would live up to their obligations?

Biography
Justin Brindger is one of the 10 Pittsburgh Pirates fans that still exist. He tortures himself every morning by reading about what stage of the 20 year rebuilding plan the Pirates are currently in. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA but lived in Williamsport, PA for most of his life and almost caught a home run ball from Sean Burroughs of Long Beach, CA during the 1992 Little League World Series. He went to Ithaca College in NY and yes, the Gorges are awesome. He started his business career trading baseball cards at the Dixie Baseball Card Shop, and thought he made some great decisions with Barry Bonds rookie cards only to find out 20 years later that the dude was on roids and the cards were not going to pay for his fiancée's engagement ring after all.
