Last weekend I took a trip to Chicago for Columbus Day.  I was able to tour around and see the sites. I came away having nothing but good things to say. One of the highlights of the trip was going to see Wrigley Field home of the Cub’s. Me being a baseball purist loved the way the stadium is situated in the heart of city. As we walked around the outside of the stadium which is showing it’s years these days you can’t help but understand how die hard Cub’s fans are. This got me thinking who has the best fans in the world.

This is solely my list and anyone and everyone can dispute it, but it comes from life experience and what I have read and seen over the years.  While I think the Cub’s have a great stadium and great fans, they did not make my list.

5.  Pittsburgh Steelers. I can personally attest that this teams fans are some of the most devoted in all of sports. My Dad was a Steeler Fan and his father before him and now I am a Steeler fan through and through.  Everywhere I go I run into Steeler fans. When Studying in London I would stay up and watch games in the middle of the night. Now that is dedication.

Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest and most championed franchise in the AFC. The team has appeared in six Super Bowls and is one of three teams to have won the Super Bowl five times. They have appeared in 13 Conference Championship Games and have hosted more conference championship games than any other NFL franchise. From 1974 to 1979 the franchise became the first NFL franchise to win four Super Bowl titles in six seasons, a feat which is yet to be matched. The 2005 team is the only sixth-seeded team in NFL history to advance to a conference championship game; they went on to win the game, followed by their latest Super Bowl victory on February 5, 2006.

4.  Boston Red Sox.
Enough said. Red Sox Nation is unbelievable. The fans are die hard and would do anything for their team. The last game at Fenway I was to was Fall 2003 when they clinched the wild card. I swear I sang Sweat Caroline like 3 times after the game. The fans up in Boston definlety make my list.

The Boston Red Sox are a professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts, and are the reigning (2007) World Series Champions. The Red Sox are a member of the Major League Baseball’s American League Eastern Division and are the defending champions of the American League itself. Since 1912, the Red Sox\'s home ballpark has been Fenway Park.
One of the American League\'s eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Buffalo, New York in 1901. After the move from Buffalo to Boston they became a dominant team, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series in 1903. They won four more championships by 1918, and then went into one of the longest championship droughts in baseball history. Many attributed the phenomenon to the " Curse of the Bambino" , said to have been caused by the sale of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920. The drought was ended and the " curse" reversed in 2004, when the team won their sixth World Series Championship. Since 2003, the Red Sox have competed in four ALCS matchups, have won two World Series, and have emerged as arguably the most successful MLB team of the last decade.
The Red Sox led all MLB teams in average road attendance in 2007, while the small capacity of Fenway Park caused them to rank 11th in home attendance. Every home game since May 15, 2003 has been sold out—a span of over five years and an MLB record.

3. New York Yankees. Every time I go to Yankees I get chills. I took my Dad for the home run derby this year and I swear to God the hair on my arms stood on end the second I walked in. The engery that exists in Yankee Stadium is amazing. I sincerely hope that it is replicated in the new monstrous coliseum that is being built and will be ready to go next year.  Yankee fans are die hard as I found out wearing my Red Sox hat into the stadium only to have my life threatened on more than once. New York bleeds Yankee Pin Stripes and have some of some of the most devoted fans I have seen in the US.

The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team based in the borough of the Bronx, in New York City, New York. The Yankees are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball\'s American League. One of the American League\'s eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles, moved to New York City in 1903, becoming known as the New York Highlanders and also " New York Yankees" before being officially renamed the " Yankees" in 1913.[3] From 1923 to 2008, the Yankees\' home was Yankee Stadium. In 2009, they are scheduled to move into a new stadium, also to be called " Yankee Stadium" .

The Yankees lead Major League Baseball with 26 World Series championships and 39 American League Pennants. They have more championships than any other North American franchise in professional sports history, passing the 24 Stanley Cup championships by the Montreal Canadiens in 1999.

2. West Ham United.
Unlike anything I have ever been to before in my life was a Premiership match between West Ham United and Aston Villa. It was a home match for West Ham and on the Tube from my flat in Bayswater, fans were tailgating on the tube. To  put this in perspective it was a Tuesday night and by the time we made it to West Ham’s stadium there was a mass of drunken fans like I had never seen before. The fans rocked the place jumping up and down, chanting, cursing, and getting completely sloshed in the name of West Ham United.  I am truly not sure how competitive West Ham is every year, but I have to give props to their fans. The bleachers bounced up and down to the point where I swear to God I thought they were going to give way. I came away thinking I have never been to a sporting even like this and still have not.

West Ham United Football Club is an English football club based in Upton Park, London Borough of Newham, East London, who have played their home matches at the Boleyn Ground stadium since 1904.

The club was originally founded as Thames Ironworks F.C. in 1895 and was later reformed, in 1905, as West Ham United. They initially competed in the Southern League and Western League before joining the full Football League in 1919 and enjoyed their first top flight season in 1923, also featuring in the first FA Cup Final to be held at Wembley that year against Bolton Wanderers. The club\'s best final league position is third place in the 1985-86 (old) First Division.

1. Manchester United. I have not seen a fan base quite like Man U’s. They are die hard and live and die with how Man U performs.  People from all over follow this team more than any other team I have seen. Everywhere you go in London people have Jersey’s. It is a sea of Red.  The biggest rivalry Man U has is Chelsea and typically has people spilling people of pubs all across GB to catch a glimpse of their favorite team. Now I have never been to a match with Man U, but I can say everytime they come to the US they have a Rock Band Type following. This was especially true when David Beckham was playing for them. Now it is Christaino Ronaldo who is seen as a global sex symbol these days. Their fans remind me of Red Sox fans times about a million and I can honestly say that there is nothing like it in the US.

Manchester United Football Club is an English football club, based at the Old Trafford stadium in Trafford, Greater Manchester, and is arguably the most popular football club in the world,  with over 330 million supporters worldwide– almost 5% of the world\'s population. The club was a founding member of the Premier League in 1992, and has played in the top division of English football since 1938, with the exception of the 1974–75 season. Average attendances at the club have been higher than any other team in English football for all but six seasons since 1964–65.

The club is the second most successful in the history of English football and by far the most successful of recent times, having won 20 major honors since the start of Alex Ferguson\'s reign as manager in November 1986.[  They are the Premier League\'s reigning champions, and have won England\'s top division 17 times, one short of Liverpool\'s record of 18 league titles. In 1968, they became the first English club to win the European Cup, beating Benfica 4–1. They won a second European Cup as part of an unprecedented Treble in 1999, before winning their third in 2008, 40 years almost to the day after their first. The club also holds the record for the most FA Cup titles with 11.

Since the late 1990s, the club has been one of the richest in the world with the highest revenue of any football club,  and is currently ranked as the richest and most valuable club in any sport, with a value of £897 million (€1,333 million / $1.8 billion) as of September 2008.  Manchester United was a founding member of the now defunct G-14 group of Europe\'s leading football clubs and its replacement, the European Club Association.

Mr. Brindger: Some very fine writing! Wearing a "Sox" hat in the middle of Yankee nation was a bold, but crazy move. Was a wise decision to remove it when ones life is in danger... JB

Biography
Justin Brindger is one of the 10 Pittsburgh Pirates fans that still exist. He tortures himself every morning by reading about what stage of the 20 year rebuilding plan the Pirates are currently in. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA but lived in Williamsport, PA for most of his life and almost caught a home run ball from Sean Burroughs of Long Beach, CA during the 1992 Little League World Series. He went to Ithaca College in NY and yes, the Gorges are awesome. He started his business career trading baseball cards at the Dixie Baseball Card Shop, and thought he made some great decisions with Barry Bonds rookie cards only to find out 20 years later that the dude was on roids and the cards were not going to pay for his fiancée's engagement ring after all.
