I admit I didnt watch any of the original WBC or even the highlights I thought it was a desperate MLB that saw Baseball falling way behind Football in popularity and saw sports like Nascar and UFC on its heels.

The idea of playing it when most of the stars are nowhere near the top of their games especially the pitchers seeemed ludacris. Also the timing of it being right before the season I couldn't believe owners were allowing there players to participate. How can a team gain any chemistry and prepare properly for the season when there best players are off with another team. Not to mention the increased chance for injury as players push themselves too hard for these events as they have to carry the pressure of wearing there national colors.

Its been 3 years since then and my opinion this time around has changed drastically. Just a few weeks ago I was going to post about how I was dreading the beginning to this World tournament. And also how scared I was of a yankee getting hurt. But now after giving the Classic a shot I have come around on it and now agree that it is a great event for fans worldwide and a real chance for players to show there national pride and compare themselves with the best in the world. Even though there have been an alarming amount of injuries for many teams. And some important players will miss opening day due to it, I still feel there is a greater good coming from this. After witnessing the Netherlands pull that tremendous upset twice of the favored Dominican team it all changed for me. I saw the light.

I haven't missed a game since, and I probably won't unless of course the NCAA tourney is on in which case all bets are off. Some tweaking to the WBC needs to be done,and will be done in time but they're definitely on the right track.
