I went to the Pen's vs. Cap's game over the weekend and what was lost on TV was not lost in person. Evgeni Malkin is coming into his own. He took over the game.  On TV it looked like the game belonged to Sidney Crosby but while he did play very well, Malkin did it all. He even started to show his grit getting a penalty for punching someone who I could not tell who it was right in the face. I think what is really happening is that Malkin is realizing how big he actually is and that as he has started to fill out. No longer can he be pushed around. He rarely says anything to the ref's but pushes hard to get the puck into the goal.

I would like Malkin to take a little more initiative on the power play. Ovechkin is just so dominant on the powerplay. I think slap shot wise Ovechkin is slightly better, but Malkin has showed that he can be a force on the power play as well.

Last night the Pen's moved into sixth in the East after Malkin juked the heck out of Florida  Goalie Tomas Vokoun to tie the game in the 3rd period and then totally putting his best Mighty Ducks impression on display in the shootout he went left then right and then scored putting the game away. Very impressive. Word on the street is that his Mom and Dad are in town. Last year he stepped it up when his rents were in town scoring 15 points in a five game stretch to really help the Pen's get on a roll that lead to the Stanley Cup Finals.  I would serioulsy look for Malkin to just take over  as he did last season down the strech when Sidney Crosby was injured.

Malkin has a 10 point lead 94 to 84 on Ovechkin and may end up being MVP. I would say it is going to be a toss up with Ovechkin. I could go either way. Basically right now Malkin in my opinion is playing the best hockey in the league and I would not want to face the Pen's in the playoffs.

I have a distinct feeling the Pen's and the Cap's will end up meeting in the first round. I think it is destined. How many people would love to see that. I am sure the NHL would. The ratings would be amazing.

Anyone wonder if Sidney is jealous?

Malkin's move in the "Shoot out" was one of the best I have ever seen and will be on some best shot highlights for years to come! His superior play will only make "Sid the Kid" better...I have a friend who is a Pittsburgh sports nut and loyalist. He recently e-mailed me and said something interesting. He said, "John, you and I know the Steelers are Pittsburgh. But the Penquins are quickly becoming iconic, too...!'' Great to hear! Maybe someday, probably not in my lifetime, the Pirates will come up in the same discussions of greatness... John B.

I agree with you on Ovechkin is the man. He is more clutch than I have seen in any sport since Jordan. He just wants the puck. I have a blast watching him play and actually wish Malkin would play with more aggression like Ovechkin. Actually I just put up a very funny video with Ovechkin on the main page, hitting the puck around with Chris Cooley. I think Malkin though has a shot to pass Malkin still. I will stick with what I said I think Malkin may win the MVP.

You are retarded if you think Malkin will win MVP over Ovechkin. The fact of the matter is it's easier to get an assist than it is to get a goal. Because of secondary assists, it's easier for a player who's an assistman to have more points than a player who is a goal scorer. Ovechkin scores goals. He leads all players in the NHL in 3rd period goals.....By far I might add. He is the MVP of the Capitals and when he isn't scoring, the caps aren't winning. The caps are fighting for the top seed in the Eastern conference because of Ovechkin.....This makes him MVP this year. Malkin has Sidney Crosby on his team and they still are only fighting for a playoff spot. Hossa was the reason the Pens were so good last season. He's a goal scorer. Oh, and might I add that Ovechkin also gets plenty of assists too even though he leads the NHL in shots. Malkin has the ability to be MVP but doesn't have the killer instinct Ovechkin has. Oh yeah, and Ovechkin is also top 5 in hits. I rest my case....

Biography
Justin Brindger is one of the 10 Pittsburgh Pirates fans that still exist. He tortures himself every morning by reading about what stage of the 20 year rebuilding plan the Pirates are currently in. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA but lived in Williamsport, PA for most of his life and almost caught a home run ball from Sean Burroughs of Long Beach, CA during the 1992 Little League World Series. He went to Ithaca College in NY and yes, the Gorges are awesome. He started his business career trading baseball cards at the Dixie Baseball Card Shop, and thought he made some great decisions with Barry Bonds rookie cards only to find out 20 years later that the dude was on roids and the cards were not going to pay for his fiancée's engagement ring after all.
