Re: Did baseball evolve from rounders?
As what i read there are many different views even back when baseball first started people where questioning whether baseball was just a adapted version of rounders... Henry Chadwick in 1979 in Massachusetts thought that baseball was quite similar to rounder which he used to play back in England and even wrote a article about it in a newspaper... but then a number of Americans said that he was wrong and that baseball was entirely a American invention.
A commission was started to determine whether or not baseball was invented or adapted from rounders the commission concluded back then that baseball was in fact invented by a civil war hero in america called "Doubleday"... however he died in the civil war so none really could ask him if he did or how he got the idea.
As you can see baseball has been around for a long time and so has rounders, maybe baseball got its inspiration from rounders but only you can deiced that for yourself.
Oh another interesting fact that you may want to know is that the first baseball team was called something like the "New York Knickerbockers" that was a amateur baseball team that formed in September 1845, the New York Knickerbockers actually made a few of the rules of baseball and which may actually still stand today.. (not sure though). This first team played baseball not on a pro level but played more socially.
Anyway there you have it!
